Welcome to my teacher blog. This is a place where I can share things that I believe may help other teachers. I would like it to be a place where conversations can start.
I am a World History and AVID teacher at Atascocita High School in Humble Independent School District. Humble is about 25 minutes north east of Houston, Texas.
World History Pre-AP is a great course. I have taught World Cultures in 6th grade for 3 years and World History in the 10th grade for 7 years. The entire history of the world is at our disposal. We study everything from early man, King Tut, Queen Elizabeth, The Renaissance and Reformation, Revolutions, and two world wars. And there is lots in between and beyond. In Pre-AP we focus on learning how to write history. We are preparing students to be able to jump into the world of Advanced Placement with United States History in 11th grade.

AVID is a fantastic program. I began working with the AVID program in 2007. I will have 2 sections this year. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. The program works. Feel free to ask me questions about it. I can talk about AVID until I'm blue in the face.

About Mr. Duez:
I graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA in 1992. I was a secondary education, political science and history major. While at Juniata, I played football, baseball, and announced college basketball games for the school radio station.
My wife Norma also teaches at AHS. She teaches Economics to seniors. We met while in college. We came to Houston in 1994 when we begain our teaching careers in Galena Park ISD.
I began my career in education as a sixth grade World Cultures teacher and coach of football, basketball and track. In 1997 I became the technology specialist at the school.
I left education in 1999 and began working at American General and then moved on to Dynegy and Lyondell in Information Technology. In 2004, I decided to come back home to teaching. I was very pleased to work close to home in Humble ISD. I am very happy to be back at home in the classroom where I belong. I am looking foward to working with the students, faculty and staff of Atascocita High School. Every day is an adventure and I hope this website can help students and their parents have a link into the classroom from home. Communication is a big key to motivating students and reminding them of the path needed for success.
Mrs. Duez and I live in nearby Kingwood and have a wonderful son, Aidan. We also have two great cats and a 55 gallon tank filled with some cool fish.
I am an "avid" reader and love books on education, self improvement, and history. I love sports and I am a big fan of these teams: Houston Texans, Houston Astros, Houston Rockets, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Penn State Nittany Lions.
